Stevenston revealed as the UK’s savviest shoppers

Surge in January parcel deliveries as North Ayrshire consumers make the most of the New Year sales

Welwyn Garden City, 17 February 2020: The town of Stevenston in North Ayrshire, Scotland, saw the largest surge in January parcel deliveries this year, according to data collated by PayPoint on behalf of the Collect + network.

The parish town saw a 90% increase in parcel collections in the first month of 2020, when compared to the same month last year, as savvy shoppers took advantage of the January sales.

Reflecting the change in consumer habits, with more people than ever opting for the convenience of online shopping, the highest year-on-year increases were largely seen in rural towns. Following Stevenston were Lymm in Cheshire, Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire and Poulton-le-Fylde in Lancashire, which all saw more than a 50% increase in parcel collections. Teddington in South West London rounds up the top five.

Gary Winter, Parcels Director at PayPoint, commented: “We understand customers expect increased flexibility when ordering online. As online shopping continues to increase in popularity, our Collect + service allows retailers to take advantage of the increased footfall and provide services that the local community can rely on.”
